St Patrick’s Day is one of the most celebrated days in Liverpool and each year the city throws a St Patricks Day party to remember.
Often referred to as the second capital of Ireland, Liverpool is rich in Irish history and heritage. From our street names to the Irish immigrants who came here and made Liverpool what it is today; we have a lot to celebrate on the 17th March 2016.
Irish people have been settling in Liverpool since the late 1790’s and today it’s no different. As you walk through the streets of Liverpool you’ll regularly hear the distinct Irish accent coming from both the older and younger generations and you may be surprised to know that it’s thought 50 percent of Liverpudlians have Irish heritage.
This year, St Patrick’s Day falls on a Thursday which means the party will be in full swing as it gears up for a whole weekend of celebrations.
There are a large number of Irish pubs and bars which will be filled to the brim but this year Liverpool will also host its annual St Patrick’s Day Parade with thousands expected to hit the streets dressed head to toe in green waving the Irish flag.
St Patrick’s Day Parade
The St Patricks Day Parade is a brilliant event to kick start your patron saint celebrations in Liverpool. Staring at Great Orford Street and Mount Pleasant the parade winds its way through Liverpool’s city centre ending at Derby Square.
You’ll be following the Manchester Community Pipe Band, Cambria Welsh Drum Band and the Liverpool Irish Flute Band who will be adorned in the national colour of green.
Be sure to take some Irish flags with you to wave and don’t forget the green attire and Guinness top hats to complete the look.

Pogue Mahone’s is another traditional Irish bar located on Seel street in the heart of Liverpool’s city centre. Again, like Shenanigans, Pogue’s claims to serve the best Guinness in Liverpool.
We won’t go into the details of what Pogue Mahone translates into but we can assure you this proper Irish boozer is warm, friendly and will really make you feel like you’re in the heart of Dublin. There will live singers and lots of fun to be had for the entire weekend.
Flanagans is a three-floor Irish bar located in the heart of Liverpool’s lively Cavern Quarter, home of the Beatles.

The Liffey Bar
The Liffey bar is a hugely popular bar offering a warm Irish welcome and grand old time, from the outside it doesn’t look like your typical Irish bar, but once you step inside you’ll be greeted by old, scruffy furniture, barrels for tables and green walls with a map of Dublin proudly displayed.
Located on Renshaw Street, The Liffey is the perfect bar to get your Paddy’s Day celebrations underway so make sure you pop in, it’s also conveniently located for those who will be heading into town later.
Although O’Neils has become a well-known chain in the UK and many argue it has lost its Irish roots, they certainly know how to put on a St Patrick’s Day celebration.
